Cashavelly Morrison took some time before her appearance on NPR’s Mountain Stage to stop by Kid In The Background studios and perform “Long-Haired Mare” for this episode of the Prince Street Sessions. Cashavelly originally hails from the Mountain State – specifically around our hometown of Beckley WV – but has been a staple in the NYC Americana scene for some time.

Her latest album release – Hunger – has garnered some major accolades, receiving stellar reviews in both Rolling Stone and the Huffington Post. This haunting tune is a murder ballad touching topics of family, love, and sacrifice – in the spirit of Townes Van Zandt or early Leonard Cohen, with the musical chops of EmmyLou Harris or Gillian Welch.
